Itinerary description
The final leg of the Larressore inland route of the Comet Line over the Spanish border run in 1943 to 1944. From the safehouse Mandochineko Borda on the border of Espelette and Larressore this route (as opposed to the more famous Bidasoa route near the coast) saved some 128 Allied aircrew and others with the help of the Basque guides of the Comet Line. (See photo number 2 of plaque at IhI Lepoa and phitos of the guides) .This Comet route then picked up the path south west from Col de Gorospil to Jauriko/Jauregiko Borda where the pilots hid during the day. This safehouse was the home of Xan Mihurra. He then accompanied them to other safe houses in the Baztan Valley in Eratzu or Amaiur. ( This trail documented here continues east from Col de Gorospil as we went for lunch in Bentas de Burkaitz!).
