Itinerary description

After a brief but strenuous climb out of Fife the trail follows the old Columbia and Western Railway. A wide gravel path ascends at a 2% grade for the length of the day. Some spectacular views today and a couple bear encounters. The second one I got to within 15 feet before we each noticed one another. He went up on his hind legs and I retreated hastily!! Needless to say I’ll be keeping a better eye out going forward! Water was accessible throughout the day. Paulson Station is a great little campsite with a toilet, picnic benches and accessible water. Overall a fantastic start to the walk to Castlegar. Stay tuned for day 2!

Great little campsite right on the River. There’s a loo too! Nice place to stop after a long day.
