Itinerary description
A circular walk starting on the outskirts of Jalon, going up and along the ridge of the Serra de la Devesa before descending to the Cases de les Murtes. From here the route goes up the Barranco Negro, up to the summit of Penya de Coll de Rates (Penya Talai) then down to Coll de Rates and past the Diorama to join the old Cami de Xalo a Tarbena then off on a track below the Serra de la Devesa back to the car.
To get to the start take the turning off the CV-750 opposite the Tourist Info between the Centre Comercial La Teulera and Casa Aleluya Bar. Follow this road passing on your right Cami de Mento and Cami del Fonteta Pinca. At the next junction where the main road bears right and there is a road straight on, turn left and carry on until the transmission aerials and water deposito and park where you can (considerately!) - there are a number of 'lay-bys' on the road to the aerials where it is possible to park. Alternatively you can park in the large car park by the Tourist Information in Jalon and walk the first road section.
This route is a variation to Bob Stansfield's route 'Rates from Jalon'.

At the top of a steep section of road at a sharp left hand bend look out for cairns - go up slope to start of path.

Look out for track at the end of a long section of high terrace wall on your right. Carry on up track until you reach a ruin.
