Itinerary description
A very exciting trail that starts from Col de la Porte, where there are plenty of parking spots, leading to a peak with a very nice view, with a lot of different terrains and paths.
The trail starts on a dirt road with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. At the first intersection that we will find we will turn left, entering a yellow-marked path mostly exposed to the sun with a few trees and a last part in the forest, this path has an odd, unmarked intersection where we turn left so watch out. At the end of that path, we find an intersection where we turn left and find the most difficult part of the trail. This part is mostly rocky and we gain a lot of altitude. This part leads us to the Roccassiera peak. We continue along the ridge entering a forest and reduce our altitude is a slower pace than we gained it, which is good for our knees! After exiting the forest we will enter a grassland with an intersection where we have to turn almost 180 degrees. After walking for a bit in the grassland, we will enter again in the forest on a path (this part was the only muddy part of the trail) that will lead us to the intersection where we will have turned left before the rocky steep part of the trail. We return on the way we came. (on the way down we can take a small shortcut which is seen on the map, which is not a good idea on the way up)
Generally, the most difficulty is compressed at the beginning, which allows for the biggest part of the hike to be relaxing. Hiking shoes are a must since there are multiple slipery and steep parts. Enjoy with caution and don't forget your sunscreen!
