Itinerary description

This is a walk from Methyr Tydfil over the ridge to Aberdare and then through some of the more remote parts of South Wales to Margam Country Park. It is mainly through woods or moors passing many wind turbines and with views to the north. Waymarking is poor, many of the original markings have long since faded. The area is also popular with Mountain bikers.

Danger sign blocking path

At this point the route of the Coed Morgannwg as marked on Ordnance Survey maps is blocked by a barbed wire fence and a sign saying Danger, Quarrying (and its equivalent in Welsh).

Path blocked by brambles etc

This section of path is blocked by brambles, fallen trees, young pine trees etc. it is difficult to get around. An alternative is to follow a bike path (White's level) but there is the risk of being hit by a bike

Should have kept going east

At this point I followed a footprint waymark that I though was the Coed Morgannwg Way. It took me to a bridge further west and added distance to the route. I should have keep going east.

Took wrong route should go straight on

I misread a waymark and went down a bike path to a parallel track. I should have gone straight on
