Itinerary description

The Colorado Trail in this region sticks to the Continental Divide, and passes through only the very northwest corner of the Weminuche Wilderness. I cut down from Jarosa Mesa to the N Fork Clear Creek, followed it to Lost Trail Creek, the down to the Rio Grande, and up into the Weminuche via Ute Creek. It is difficult to get through the N Fork Clear Cr valley due to all the fenced (and unfenced) private property. Once in the Weminuche, I followed Ute Creek up its east fork to the Rincon La Osa, from there down the Pine River to Flint Creek, thence up to Flint Lake and down Rock Creek to the Vallecito River, which has many beautiful campsites. I hiked up Johnson Cr to Columbine Pass, and down into the very crowded Chicago Basin, and from there down to Needleton where I took the train back to Durango.
