Itinerary description
Cluidaniller, Aranmore Island, Donegal, Ireland (Marilyn).
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries. All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
This was a nice little route. Basically I parked at Burtonport ferry terminal car park. This was November so there was plenty of room for my Merc MWB sprinter. There are also immaculate toilets and shower there open 24/7 along with a good nearby pub and chippy van. The ferry services the people of Arranmore island so leaves very regularly...first one leaves for the island around 8.30am and returns 17.30 weekdays and this is year round. Check weekend timings. The trip out takes 20mins. The hike...land on island and follow the GPX track. There is a bit after 2ks where I appear to cross some fields. Don’t bother with this, the map shows a path but there wasn’t one. Anyhow apart from this stick to my track. It is road or rough track most of the way. When you do go off road the going is easy enough. I did two peaks there’s a cairn at one and a trig point at the other. It was a nice walk. I didn’t have time to do all the island but it was pretty and enjoyable hike.
All in all a 13km hike with 432m of ascent done in 2hrs 40min. Didn’t stop at all.
