If you're looking for walks, you're in Japan.
The “excessive” courtesy, such a different and remarkable cuisine, the ryokans, the onsens, the lines.
Japan, the cleanest and most structured country in the world with numerous, super clean and technologically brilliant toilets. You will never have had such clean private parts.
You have to queue at a bus stop to experience Japanese rigor. Public transportation is excellent.
Urban equipment for the blind is extremely sophisticated.
They don't seem to care about water, energy, global warming and consume a lot of plastic in all forms. We wonder if in Europe, we live on the same planet as them.
There are obviously the public baths and onsens that you will miss after the trip.
If you can, you should pay for some quality hotels, ryokans and onsens to discover this amazing Japan.
We traveled with “Au fil du Japon”, a remarkable agency.

The Nakasendo Trail connected Tokyo to Kyoto during the Edo period. Like many other historic routes in the world, there are not many authentic sections of the Nakasendo here. We are rather on a walking path linking two villages. Quite ordinary path with sections of road and no views. As it is touristy, there are shelters and toilets.
The villages are tourist traps but well done. The second part to Nagiso has even more roads but at the castle there is the only view of the ride. Go to the castle then retrace your steps; the taxi will be cheaper. Nagiso has nothing to show.

Finally, there are the bells to scare away the bears???
We easily found a taxi to return. And there are buses, but you have to be patient.
Matsumoto is not far away. The castle is very beautiful from the outside, but don't be stupid enough to visit the interior. It's a huge traffic jam with nothing to see.
If you use this layout, please rate it so we can improve.
Good road
