Circular walk Elzach and surroundings. Forests, meadows, views and a cozy town center in typical local fashion.

Elzach lies around 26 kilometres northeast of Freiburg. The idyllic little town is an official health resort which forms the heart of the Elztal – one of the best-known valleys in the Black Forest.

This track passes through the immediate vicinity of Elzach and is very varied. Included are meadows, and lots of forests. We will follow mainly forest paths and unpaved roads.

The route starts from the parking lot at the natural swimming pool of Elzach.
From there we walk a short distance on a narrow, quiet asphalt road to the BDH-klinik Elzach.
When we have arrived at the klinik we turn left and continue on a kind of nature trail through the meadows. From here we have wide views of our surroundings.
We arrive at Cafe Restaurant Richebächli, here we turn right up the slope. Not long after that we enter the forest. We now follow for a short while a route that is indicated with diamond symbols.
But soon we go our own way again and we arrive at a valley with a few houses.
The landscape is now open again with meadows and it is clear that the cows here occupy a prominent place in the existence of the locals. From this point we have nice views over the valley and Elzach.
From here our route winds further through the forest, and sometimes we are close to the edge of the forest which guarantees some views.
As we start to approach Elzach there are more and more benches and picnic tables along our route, apparently this is an area where the people from the village often go for a walk. This can likely be explained by the status of official health resort: people apparently like to go for a stroll close to town.
Via a road along an orchard, we enter the village. The old centre that we pass just before the end of our route is a sight to behold. There are beautiful houses in typical local fashion.
The weekly market is on Tuesday 13-20h and Saturday 6-13h. So make sure you walk through it at those times.
