Itinerary description

You can use this as alterative start to the Chirripo trail;
or as a circulair Rivas -San Gerardo - Rivas.

For Chirripo National park you need a permit (you can get one online). You can continue all the way to this highest peak of Costa Rica, at 3.820 Meter. But you need accomodation, food, water etc.

For the local circulair walk, you don't need a permit.

At 880 meters distance, you pass Poza Verde. The best swimming hole in the region. Quite cool, but lovely when it is hot.

In Los Angelos you pass the cluster school/church/football field.
After 2,5 KM distance, you see an artistic metal door on your right (it is in the photo's). Then somewhere on your left you see a very small sign 'Sendero Chirripo'; that's your trail.

At 3,1 KM distance, we took a wrong road; it leads to a construction project. Continue as we did, further up. By now you get nice views of the Rivas valley.

At 4.1 KM you hit the official Chirripo trail. Just a few meters before that, you can turn left (and down) over a narrow trail that brings you to San Gerardo. The sign was fallen on the ground, when we got there. We makeshift erected the sign.

You may also hike up the Chirripo trail, as we did the first 4 KM of it. The trail has a smooth gradient, and is relatively easy.
