Itinerary description
This is a delightful little walk, only about 15 kilometres to the south of Carcassonne, in a part of the countryside that is dominated by the vineyards of the Blanquette de Limoux.
You will have some very nice views on this walk, especially to the west and the east but Cacassonne itself, although relatively close is not to be seen.
We left Saint-Hilaite to the north west on a narrrow road that took us from a height from 180 to 280 metres and once we reached that height we took the track that runs along the ridge of the hill that dominates the valley on the west side of Saint-Hilaire and followed this for half of the total distance of this walk. There are some very nice views on this part.
At the end of the ridge we followed the track to the D43 and shortly after followed the track that runs alongside the vineyards and the river LeLauquet. This too is a very nice part of the walk with extensive views over the vineyards and the open fields and mountains further away to the east. and the south.
Getting closer to the village of Sain- Hilaire again you will also get some beautiful views of the abbey.
