Itinerary description
Circle hike starting at Dettifoss, along the river to Hafragilsfoss and a bit further. Returning part not at the river but further inland (very "bleak" atmosphere). The part alongside the river is part of the hike Dettifoss-Vesturdalur. The circle took me about 3 hours. In general the hike is easy, only the descend and the ascend are quite steep (a rope supports climbing down). You should not take the route if you carry heavy backpacks, but alternative routes are available.
At Dettifoss you are allowed to camp, but there are only very limited facilities available.
