Itinerary description
The coastal scenic route from Riomaggiore to Monterosso that passes through all the villages. The parts from Riomaggiore to Manarola and from Manarola to Corniglia were closed due to rock falls (not expected to be opened before 2021) so the only option is to move through the paths with thousands of stairs that climb the hills behind the villages. The path from Corniglia to Monterosso is easier (and most crowded in touristic period) and also a ticket of 7.5 EUR has to be bought at the entrance. The option to avoid the ticket is to go uphills again but this will make the hike even harder and longer. The path from Riomaggiore to Manarola can be tricky (not adequate/clear signs) but in general the red/white signs have to be followed. The second part from Manarola to Corniglia that passes through Volastra is the most beautiful in my opinion. Care should be taken at some spots that are exposed without protection, there is no technical difficulty but you have to watch where you step. In case of quitting the trail there is a railway station at every village and getting the train is the easiest way to return. Starting point is the railway station of Riomaggiore.
