Itinerary description
This walk starts with a creek crossing - the map I was using said it was Fairbairn street - but there's not much street-like about it, it's just a trail.
At the time of doing this walk, there were logs across the creek, so we didn't get our feet wet.
The trail then passes a pine tree plantation and an area almost completely devoid of native vegetation - just gorse, blackberries and one or two fruit trees.
As the hike progresses, there is more native vegetation and we even managed to see some fly-catcher plants and a few small native flowers. But that is one of the things that is interesting about this area - the level of damage done to what the natural environment once looked like caused by 19th and early 20th century mining.
The highlight is the Garfield Water Wheel - but there are ruins scattered throughout the hike area - including building foundations and an old furnace chimney. There is a small amount of bush bashing.
You can easily make this hike longer and continue on to the Welsh village. I had time limits which meant this wasn't possible for me this time.
Enjoy!
