1. Bus stop
The starting point is the Chevalier Garden bus terminus. You can take the KMB 289K bus from University MTR station, or one of the many other buses that stop at the terminus.
3. Intersection
Turn right onto the road when you reach the T-junction with the road ahead.
4. Intersection
Turn right just before you reach the sign at the end of the road.
6. Waypoint
Walk up the steps right beside the house. It looks like you are walking into someone's backyard, but you aren't. Just keep going along the trail.
18. Photo
The view back to Chevalier Garden and Shatin gets better as you gain elevation.
21. Intersection
Turn right at this intersection and head up toward the nearby peak.
23. Intersection
Keep to the right here for the most direct path to the nearby peak. You can also go left to get to the same destination via a longer path with a gentler slope.
25. Summit
View from the summit toward the Hong Kong Science & Technology Park, with Tai Po in the distance. Chevalier Garden is at the lower left.
29. Intersection
Keep to the left at this intersection. The trail to the right heads down to the dam at the end of Mui Tsz Lam Road.
32. Summit
Another summit, higher than the last. This is the view toward the Hong Kong Science & Technology Park, and Tai Po.
39. Photo
Climb back up the other side of the ravine using the steps carved into the steep wall just ahead of you.
41. Waypoint
On the hill just ahead you can see the fence around the Ma On Shan Tsuen fresh water tank. Follow the trail around the right side of it.
42. Intersection
Keep right at this intersection, heading up toward the next summit.
43. Intersection
Keep to the right at this intersection, before reaching the sign. The trail is a bit overgrown and heavily wooded along the next section of the trail.
52. Intersection
A major junction of several trails. Follow the sign to Ngong Ping Camp Site.
54. Intersection
Another major intersection. Follow the sign to Tai Shui Tseng.
55. Pavement starts
As you approach civilization, the dirt and rock path becomes paved with concrete and well-formed steps.
56. Waypoint
At the end of the trail. After the next bend, you will be walking along a paved road.
60. Waypoint
Here you pass by a public toilet. A great place for a quick change of clothes (assuming you brought some) if you want to freshen up after your hike before boarding the bus into Sai Kung.
61. Bus stop
You can take the 3A minibus from this stop right into Sai Kung, where numerous restaurants, cold drinks, ice cream, and the beach all await you.
