Itinerary description
A hike on Cheonggyesan Mt. The hike is not really challenging, but scenic. Cheonggyesan has an elevation of 620 m. It is located on the outskirts of Seoul and you will enjoy the view of the city and hills nearby.
Difficulty.
I mark this trail as moderate. There is no problem to find a way since there are many signs and the trail is well organized. Essentially it is just a walk uphill and then down. No ropes, no boulder hopping, no exposed parts, no loose rocks, no scrambling. But the trail is 12+ km long with 1100 m elevation gain which requires good stamina.
Public transportation.
The trail starts not far from Seoul Grand Park metro station Cross parking and you will find the trailhead just next to the bridge over Gwacheon lake. Trailhead coordinates are 37.430465, 127.011386. The trail will end not far from Yangjae Citizens' Forest metro station.
Gear.
It significantly depends on the season. For the end of October, I would say you need:
1) High-cut hiking shoes
2) 1.5 liters of water, electrolytes
3) fleece jacket
4) windbreaker
5) headlamp in case you finish after sunset (you never know)
Wikiloc in Korea.
When I came to Korea I found that I could not really zoom in on the Wikiloc map after a certain level. I recommend you to download the GPS track on your Garmin, Suunto, or another GPS device and follow the trail rather than rely only on your phone. Those devices will allow you to see the track in detail. Also, offline maps on Wikiloc should work.
