Itinerary description
This is a spectacular walk to Afeska, starting anywhere in Chefchouen, navigate past the Spanish Mosque, we did it on 1st May, start early as cool in the morning and hot in the afternoon. We took a 3 litre bladder each, you need it, plus oranges. It's up and up, until you finally summit, look out for blue 🔵 marks. We met shepherds goats, and villagers, always helpful with directions, and a smile.Children would give us some company and helpful directions. After summiting the beautiful Atlas cedars, shaded us, the coolness was a relief. We rattled down the mountain, wild lavender 🪻, and aromatic herbal plants perfumed the air.
5 wild horses shared the path and shared their manure generously. Finally we arrived at Gitte Afeska, and enjoyed a very tasty, vegetarian meal, with salad, tasty bean soup and a fresh tarjine of home grown vegetables, and dark flat Moroccan bread all made by Sayeda. The Gitte is a very clean place to stay overnight and continue to Akshour the next day.
