Itinerary description
This unofficial trail is very picturesque, half of the trail goes along Chapotamia river. The trail starts in Kato Archimandrita.
Better go to the trailhead via Kouklia.
TERRAIN: most of the time you walk along gravel roads, at some places you have to follow the river bed, you have to cross the river a few times, so be prepared to some wet crossing. There is a couple of kms of mild ascending closer to the end of the trail.
SIGNS: no signs at all, it’s unofficial trail.
SEASON: better cool seasons as about 4 kms of the trail is fully exposed to the sun. Cool seasons as well provide you with fantastic plant species such as anemones, wild hyacinths, wild pot marigold and medick.
Depending on a winter there may be pretty much water in the river with strong currents.
KIDS: better avoid coming with little kids, 6-7 yo should be the youngest.
Better go to the trailhead via Kouklia.

We did part of this trail yesterday. Had a little difficulty finding the start (missed the turning to Kato Archimandrita) but found it in the end. The last bit of road was a bit rough for our rental. There was no water so the river bits were fine. We had no mobile signal, only GPS, and without it, it’s remoteness made us a little nervous. Nevertheless it’s a really beautiful area and we would do it again, only slightly better prepared!
Excellent trail once we found the start, the reason being Google maps does not recognise roads to Kato Archimandrita. Thanks Marianna for the good photos and excellent description.☺️

Great trail, we did it in reverse because we would always do the incline at the beginning of a walk. Beautiful scenery, good shade, no water in river when we did it, stopped in Kouklia for lunch. ❤️
