Itinerary description

Starting from Sumo to Tibb Cave on Day 1.
The Walk is mostly on the ice river. Very few exceptions of walking on the bank of the river.

Starting from Tibb Cave to Nirak and return to Yokomado on Day 2.
Its a long day. We carried our bags from Tibb Cave to Yokomado (almost 3 hours walk) on ice river. Left our bags in camps set up at Yokomado and continued with water bottles to Nirak Waterfall. This involves one segment where the ice was not yet frozen on the river so we had to climb almost 50-60 meters for a distance of approx 200m. This involves holding ropes and crossing steep cliff. Luckily we had porters available to support the trekkers who wanted help. Else this is a spot for most recalls esp for people with height fear. Reached Nirak frozen waterfall and returned same way back to Yokomado.
Best to carry headlamps and torches since you may end the day in the dark.

Starting from Yokomado to Sumo on Day 3.
This day is more easy to handle especillay after challenges of Day 2. A long day walk crossing Tibb Cave and depending upon the thickness of Ice you may need to climb the river banks and rocks in certian places.

Will surely advise Ankle supported trekking shoes over Rubber (Gum) boots due to the grip you get in trekking shoes. Your falls get reduced, confidence is more and can easily skid over ice maintaining proper balance. But surely carry Rubber boots for places where you need to step into water above your ankle depth. I changed my shoes 3 times all throughout the trek but last 2 days it helped me with zero falls.

I am sure you will do fall in love with the Zanskaris, their hospitality and their food.
But beware of the agencies like Thrillophilia which put you to the mercy of their local operations team and local Tour operators like Geographic Tours which can screw your once in lifetime moments. We were just saved. :)
