Itinerary description
Beautiful but difficult way to come down (or up) Chachani together with the normal route, which is posible altogether in one day, leaving Arequipa between 0:30 and 1:30 am (3 hours drive in 4*4). I would not recommend this trail without an experimented guide (like Ivan, Jerusalem st. 609, Arequipa). Early june it was windy with until 1 meter fresh snow and ice (drinking water frozen in the backpack; 6 layers thermal cloth). The old way was almost invisible. Crampons, gaiters and ice axe necessary for crossing quite steep slopes. Make the apointment with the 4*4 at the old campsite or at the end of this wikiloc trail.
