Cerro del Águila (Sierra Negra, Coin, Málaga)
To reach the start of the walk you must take the Albuqueria to Barranco Blanco route.
The first Km has been badly damaged by rainfall, so you have to take care on the upward climb. When you finally reach the helicopter pad and water deposit, this is where the path to cerro del Aguilar starts on your left.
It's a bit of a scramble at the very beginning as the soil has eroded by walkers and bad weather.
The path zig zags through the forest for 2.7km.
The last quarter section of the route is overgrown with brambles and prickly bushes
so I would recommend wearing long trousers. Walking poles would be very advantageous
as the loose rocks can be slippery at times. There are lots of cairns to guide you, but the last 20 minutes is not marked well.
When you reach the top of cerro del Aguilar the 360* views are amazing.
To get to the start of the walk take the A355 towards Marbella. Take the next junction at Km16 on your right. Turn left at the roundabout and then go straight ahead on the quarry road. About 2km down you will see an information board. Just past it you will find some off road parking.
