Itinerary description
Cennet Cehennem Vadisi: The Valley of Heaven and Hell. I only saw heaven here. :-)
The hike is not difficult. In most places you can find a path (or more) towards your destination: the lake at the foot of the glacier. (I went just a little further.)
When you arrive at the shepherds’ camp, you can park your car there and on the right hand side of the camp you need to make your way past the rocky hill.
To get to the start you need to exit the D400 at the checkpoint at Kirikdag. Than follow the road to Kirikdag Yayla on GoogleMaps. After about 5 km the road becomes a dirt road and after after another 3.5 km I would prefer a 4WD. Locals, however, drive all the way up to the Kirikdag Yayla.
The dirt road to Kirikdag Yayla goes a bit further than shown on Google.
The trip from Hakkari city to the yayla takes about 2 hours.
Since the hike is only 9 km, you might a bigger challenge and try to park the car at Gelezo Selalesi (waterfall) or the ruined Armenian church. Not sure if this is possible. It does mean, you have to ascend another 500 metres. (But it’s a reasonable dirt road so it shouldn’t be too bad)
