Itinerary description

Cavagrande is a short but beautiful walk starting on the edge of an impressive canyon, going all the way down to the river some 360 meters beneath the starting point. The starting point is a surrealistic slapstick situation: since the path is a bit worn at some places and no repairs have been made in a while, officially it is closed. At the parking lot on the edge of the canyon an iron gate with a huge lock is supposed to prevent the public from using the path. Next to the locked gate is a shed with two wardens to guard the gate. I suppose they collected the entrance fee in the past. Now however they explain you in an adorable way that allthough you are not supposed to enter, you can on your own responsability. They even putted two large boxes to help you climb over the gate. The very freindly warden hands you over a map of the forbidden routes and of course there is no entrance fee. You have a clear view on the grotta dei Briganti Necropoli on the opposite side of the canyon (which can be reached over a less used path, but I didn´t go that way). All along the path are flowers in abundance; I sow 3 types of orchids, irisses, etc. The path is steep and slippery at some places so good shoos and a walking stick are usefull.

Thanks for this tip. We made this tour on 14-09-2022 and still had to climb the fence to start it :-) The walk was beautiful and we had a great swim down in the canyon. Going back up was a bit tough, but the experience was abolutely worth while!
