Itinerary description
Great water falls and super easy to hike. Crushed limestone trail is wide with gentle grades. There is a water crossing where, what I think is where the Chestnut Branch flows across the trail into the Catawba River. Either wear water shoes or pick your way across rocks. Not much of a challenge unless there has been heavy rainfall. As you can see from the photos there is plenty of scenery. Lots of shade, with plenty of parking at trail head. Standard USFS trail head restrooms. To get a really good view of the falls we had to do a little rock climbing, which was fairly easy. From our perch, it appeared a trail may have gone further up the falls, but it looked really sketchy and we were happy with our view.
There was a really awesome yard art studio called Dragonfly Studio Art on right side of road just before you get to the trail head. Check it out.
