Itinerary description
Good hike to view the sites of Sintra. Goes right by Castelo dos Mouros and Palacio de Pena. Good hike to do with visitors.
Parking place is a semi-secret lot that occurs on the main one-way road after the bus drop off for the palaces, which is why it is less used by other drivers. If you get here in the early morning, it's likely to have parking still available.
This hike goes up the Sassetti path, which on the day we did the hike was closed about 1/2 way up, but there is a way around. It goes through a fence that has been cut so you can still get through and after that you go up some very rough old narrow steps, but it's very interesting.
Part of the hike goes along the old outer castle walls. There is another hike though, in wikiloc, that I think includes a longer bit along the old castle walls -- some of which is more dramatic.
