Itinerary description
Ordnance Survey Discovery Series 75.Take the R697 from Carrick on Suir, County Tipperary and turn left for Faugheen at S 417 268, and then first right for Ahenny. Forest entrance is on left at sign for Newtown School. Parking for 3/4 cars at barrier.
A gentle forest loop with slight uphill sections on leafy tracks, sometimes in single file. Fantastic views over the Suir Valley towards Fiddown Bridge, Portlaw, Carrick on Suir and beyond to the Comeraghs. Walk can easily be halved in length by continuing on down the public road and then turning left back into the forest again.Loop to mast on Carrigadoon Hill may also be avoided. Final section involves a short walk through an open field, before exiting onto a farm boreen once again.
