The summer temperatures began to cool. The weather is suitable to be able to climb the mountain tops again. After our preparation all this time we started for the mountain of Nemertsikas. Our goal was to attract her eagles again, but this time not from the village of Sopiki. Our journey started at 4 o'clock in the morning and traveling for 2 hours we reached the village of Dratsova in Premeti which was also our starting point. We loaded our backpacks and with the help of a friend of ours, Vangelis, who showed us the way to their barn. Odysseus' father would be waiting for us there. Nature was waking up and we were walking under the shade of the plane trees, listening to the music of the birds which accompanied our footsteps. Having been in the mountains since we were small children and the road has taken us several times to stables and shepherds, yesterday's presence of a shepherd has confirmed for us these moments that we have lived with them for so many years. He came out a little below the stable to wait for us. We found him with a hug of branches that he has collected for his baby goats. He greeted us with great joy and hosted us in his small town. He made us eat a "rich" breakfast. And while we were eating he prepared his flock for us to leave together. Barba Odysseus would show us and accompany us for a long way. The location of his stall is impressive. Inside a huge pit. Surrounded by rocky cliffs to protect it from the winds. Within a strong contrast of forest and alpine environment. May the voices of the dogs make their presence there so intense, as guardians of the herd and we may be filled with freedom. The bells began to ring loud and clear when the liasa* of the prefecture* opened. It sounded as if they were giving a signal to start some kind of fight. Behind the herd and us. Climbing with hands and feet, under the instructions of the shepherd on the steep slopes we reached a little below the summit. We made a stop and he explained some details to us from where we would continue and how we would return. He would wait for us at the same spot until we returned. We didn't feel tired at all. We were full of energy and "thirsty" to reach the top. We were walking in a gully full of gravel. We were very little below the ridge and the heat was now getting intense. We continued at the same pace until some technical problems gave us no more room to continue. We stopped on the spot, enjoyed the wild alpine beauty of Nemertsika under the eyes of eagles. We were not sad but we were grateful for what we managed to do. We left the peak with the wish that we will visit it again some other time. The descent was steep and the gravel made it dangerous. Our return was made by the same path. We sat and ate what we had with us under the shade of Nemertsika and continued towards the stable where Vangelis would be waiting for us. Arriving at the stable. Vangelis and barba Odysseus, to please us, have arranged a goat. The fire was lit to make the coals. We sat down took a breath and each of us began to help. We slaughtered the goat together, collected frozen snow and put the beers to cool while the fire burned. After the meal, as well as the goats have come close to the pen and the daylight was falling we said goodbye to these hospitable people and returned refreshed and full of positive energy for the next. This hike had a lot to teach us. See you, proud Nemerchika, at our next appointment.
PS A THANK YOU is little for these people.
