The route, to say the least, begins in the car park located next to the reserve. There is no separation between the parking lot and the reserve, so be very careful not to run over a seal.

The boarded-up wooden promenade only has one entrance and it is precisely the one in front of which the seals lie down. You could also walk freely between them. You will see.

Seals galore, some dead and being eaten by seagulls, young seals, old seals, seals on land, seals in the water, seals under the boardwalk, seals sleeping, seals suckling, seals moaning... bills is what you came to see.

Cape Cross is located on the Skeleton Coast. About 120 km north of Swakopmund. The last stretch of road is marked on maps as "salt road" but it's a pretty decent paved road. From this road fishing stalls constantly leave in the direction of the sea. There are reportedly some 200,000 seals in this area making it the largest seal reserve in the world.

In 1486 the Portuguese Diego Cão was the first European to reach this area. He erected a stone cross. Withdrawn and taken to Berlin in 1893 by corvette captain Gottlieb Becker who replaced it with a wooden one. In 1895 this was replaced by a stone one. On November 1, 1968, the area was declared a national monument. On October 11, 1980, a replica of Diego Cão's original cross was erected in its original position.

The lodge near Cape Cross was originally an English guano mining station.

By the way, in many places it is indicated that the smell is terrifying. You get used to it in 5 minutes. It's not that bad either.
