Itinerary description
Long hike with constant elevation gain, high altitude cowboy camp options. some sections fairly steep but with excellent switchbacks. The trail is consistent and can't be lost once you turn into the forest above the last pampa. A little oergrown at times but not a bushwack. Still plan on leaving early and be in good shape or go very slowly like I did. Bring water or be prepared to collect at every opurtunity. There are only a handful of good streams. The cows and their pies go right up past the summit of the mesa, usually near streams so don't overly trust the 'pure mountian spring water'. Wouldn't want to do this hike when it's wet out. Sunset from the top of the mesa when visibility is good is spectacular.
