Itinerary description
The Guadarrama Canal.
Antonio Ulloa (1716-1795) sailor and scientific, devised the project of navigation and irrigation, the waterway of Castilla, promoted by the Marqués de la Ensenada (see Frómista in the Camino de Santiago).
He also wanted to create a canal of 771 km for the kingdoms of Castilla y León, linking Castilla to the Atlantic. Francisco de Cabarrus director of the San Carlos Bank hired a french engineer, Carlos Lemaur.
Works started in the El Gasco dam with a canal of 26 km.
Just the previous day of the Patron of Madrid, San Isidro, a huge storm destroys part of the wall of the dam. Works ceased and Madrid stayed far from the see and the beach.
This track is a remainder of this history, still there, in the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares, PrePark of the Guadarrama National Park, a place worth to visit
