Itinerary description

Camping Les Ochay: Grotte Saint-Remacle

Start your walk at Camping Les Ochay in Mortehan:
Rue de Linglé 37
6880 Bertrix
49,80345° N, 5,21384° O

At camping Les Ochay turn left to cross the bridge over the Semois. At the first junction turn left and follow the road until you come to some paths on your left and you’ll have to take the third one. It is clearly the steepest, most rocky one too, you can’t miss!
On the other side of the road you’ll find a lovely picnic/bbq area called “ La Coulee Verte”

So, you take the third, steepest rocky path on the lefthandside of the main road and follow this until you reach a small junction. Here you turn left and now the climb is much less steeper as in the beginning. We stay on this path for more than a kilometer until we reach another junction where, again, we turn left. Keep following the wide forestroad and soon you’ll find yourself at Rue de la Chapelle which you have to cross. Watch out for cars!
On your right you’ll see a brown sign across the street saying: “Grotte Saint Remacle”

We follow the forest road in the direction of the Grotte. At first you have a great view over Cugnon from a distance and after a kilometer you find yourself at a crossroad of paths. There’s also a bench here. Follow the signs towards the Grotte and Point de Vue. 150 meter further down the path you’ll see a little shelter. Here, you descent on your left to reach the Grotte Saint Remacle.
After exploring the two caves you walk back towards the shelter, walk left of it and after a steep, but short, climb you’ll reach the Point de Vue, a panoramic spot with a wooden cross and an information board.

After enjoying the view, you walk back the same way you came until you reach the crossroads of paths with the bench where you now take the downhill path on your right. We are now descending towards La Semois and Camping Saint Remacle.
Just before the camping, you reach a junction where you stay left which will take you around the campsite. Near the entrance of the camping you’ll have to cross the campsite for a few meters. On the right of the main building at the entrance of the camping you’ll spot a small bridge which you have to cross to get to an island on the Semois. Walk until the end of the island until you reach a seasonal bridge (may - september, depending on the height of the water).

Cross the bridge and take the uphill path on your left. After about ten minutes you’ll come to a crossroad where you turn left again! After awhile the forestroad turns into tarmac while you descend towards the main road in Mortehan.
Follow the main road for 500 meters until you reach the church. Here, turn right into Rue de la Cherreau and after a few meters you continue left. Follow the road until you reach another junction where, again, you go left. Follow this road, Rue des Minieres, all the way down towards Camping Les Ochay.

Enjoy!
