Itinerary description
Trail from Nájera to Catedral de Santo Domingo de la Calzada passing through:
- Azofra (5.4 km)
Day 9 of our Camino! We walked today only 21.87 km (comparing to the previous 2 days with 30 km it’s not that much).. But it was a hard day! I woke up in the morning (around 4 am) with my tendon on the right leg increased and painful. P.s mama, don’t worry, all is good! Anna helped me to put some magical cream, that reduced pain, so I could walk. And we put a bandage on my leg.
But it was also difficult to walk because it was crazy windy today! I wouldn’t go sailing in such weather! So I assume it was more than 30 knots wind. And good that we had heavy bags, otherwise we would be blown away. (Need always look at the positive side)!
In the morning we had nice chat with the owner of previous albergue. He was advising me to take a bus. But I said that I want to walk.
Landscape wasn’t that beautiful today, as yesterday. Mostly - empty fields. But still beautiful.
On the way we met olderly couple, who are locals. They are 76 and 78 years old. They told that they always wanted to do Camino de Santiago, but never did. And that they would probably die wanting to do it, and never would do, because they are “too old”. I said, that it’s not true. You can do it in any age, just take it slowly.. Hope that they will do it!
For the lunch stop (and to get some rest and warm up), we stopped in the golf club. They have nice cafe bar there. And it wasn’t expensive at all, I would say even cheap. Nice place to stop for a break. Today night we are spending in Santa Domingo de La Calzada. Cathedral here really worth visiting! Most of it is a museum. And they also have chicken and rooster there (that they change every week). There is a story, if the rooster crows, your wish will come true.
