Itinerary description
Caminito del Rey.
This walk is regulated by the provincial government of Malaga and requires pre booking via the internet for a timed and insured visit at a charge of 10€. There are a few important rules regarding the walk. No children under the age of 8, no walking poles or large back packs are allowed on the controlled section and suitable footwear for rough terrain should be worn. Hard hats and hair nets are provided at the entrance to the 3 km controlled section of the Caminito, these are to protect you from any falling debris off the vertical rock faces nearby.
The walk itself starts at the Northern end of the gorge and finishes at the lower Southern end close to the village of El Chorro. The grading of the walk is set at moderate although many experienced walkers would consider it easy, whilst others especially those with a nervous disposition towards height exposure might consider it difficult. Views along the route are spectacular throughout and you may actually spot a train on the railway which also passes through the gorge.
My advice to visitors would be to park any vehicle at El Chorro and take the shuttle bus to the Northern lakeside end to start the walk
