Itinerary description
A hike to an old gold mine.
Take the old mining road up the wash.
The "road" runs on the right side of the wash.
The "road" is sometimes sandy, but mostly rocky.
The best part starts half way at the barrier.
At the barrier keep following the faint road, that bends to the left.
If you can't find the road, keep left in the canyon.
Ignore any forks to the right.
On a more narrow part in the canyon as the canyon makes a S turn, the road veers to the right.
Now you are close to the mine. It can be found in the left side of the canyon floor.
There is almost nothing left of the gold mine. Leave out the almost....
The pictures
How to get here:
Drive up Thousand Palms Canyon Road, North until it ends at Dillon Rd.
It actually runs further on. Cross Dillon Rd and keep a bit to the right on the wide dirt road.
(Don't drive the smaller dirt road)
The road is mostly asphalt for 2 miles, the remaining is gravel.
Just under 4 miles beyond the crossing with Dillon Rd, park as the road forks ( in a V)
This is close to the end (right/east side,) of the canyon wash.
There should be a small road leading north. Start hiking this road North.
The road should be OK for any car.
It's a private road but you have right of way, so don't worry if you are forced to stop by someone jelling it's a private road...... Just drive on.
