Itinerary description

More Anza Borrego Hiking

Stunning sandstone canyon.

To get here follow the route to the Mud Palisades, but take one canyon earlier.
Driving time is about 1 hour.

Drive to the Mud Palisades

Park before or just in the canyon. The canyon is quite unstable, so parking in the canyon is not a good idea.

Hike into the canyon and follow the tire tracks, when needed.
At point "Fork Left 1" there is a mayor obstacle for most cars. A wall of sand and sand "rocks" block the way.
There is a way true this obstacle for some very high clearance cars or motorcycles.

We first hiked the main canyon, up to point "Stop". At this point the main canyon forks into very small canyon / washes. But you can hike further.

On the way back explore the other forks, some are quite easy to hike in, some are more blocked.

Hiking time: As long as you want. This hike took 3 Hours return.
The GPS data is not that accurate in this high walled canyon.

The area reminds me of my trip to Palm Springs. I enjoyed hiking all those drylands. I should hike further down next time. Looks beautiful!

The best in winter and early spring, more rough, you need a 4x4 to get to this hike.
I will be in Palm Springs 03 2011.
