Itinerary description

More Anza Borrego Hiking

Highway S2 Mile 47 exit Campground. On a good dirt road (all cars) along the campground to the trail head. Head North in the wash to Mary's Grove that can be seen from the parking. At Mary's Grove go left up a small canyon and on top go left rather steeply downhill.
Down in the canyon head right (west) reaching North Grove and Surprise Canyon Grove.
Follow the canyon on the right side (easier) up to Palm Bowl Grove. Retrace 150 Yards and look left for the trail heading up to Indian Canyon (excellent trail - no signs). This small detour is well worth the trip when flowers an cacti are blooming (March / April) (we where there March 2009) The trail ends at a campground close to the Torote Canyon trail head on the other side of the road to the right. You may consider to add this hike as well (posted on this site)
Back to Surprise Canyon Grove, where all the palms are, a trail heads south east to the right uphill (excellent trail). The trail heads south to North West Grove. Just before the Grove look for the Elephant tree. At NW Grove head left (north east) in the direction of the trail head (car)

Hiking time 2 Hours 40 Minutes return.
