Itinerary description
More Anza Borrego Hiking
An excellent loop to experience the Anza Borrego Badlands.
From the roadside parking, the road crosses a deep wash (North Fork Arroyo Salado).
Just before the bridge, there is a smaller wash (south) leading into the North Fork Arroyo Salado.
Once in the main wash, hike downstream.
You cross the park boundary, marked with prohibited for off road vehicles, all across the wash.
Take the next smaller fork to the right, going north/west. Be careful to take the left one (west), as there are two forks about 40 yards apart.
Follow the "main" wash north/west.
Eventually the wash ends in rocky flat terrain.
Follow the deep wash, eventually you see the truckhaven trail (road 2) going into the wash on the opposite side.
That's the point where you will enter the wash eventually.
But for now keep on going, until you meet a fork where you can enter the main wash (North Fork Arroyo Salado).
In the main wash, head left (north), disregard the truckhaven road to the right, that leads out of the canyon.
Stay in the main wash for now.
At the next fork (fork right 2) go right into the smaller canyon.
The next fork (fork right 3) go right.
This is close the the main road, hike out of the canyon at point "Out" in a small rocky wash.
You should now end up at mile 37.
Hike cross country to the car (right).
The pictures
Best hiked in February (Asters).
I've seen topo maps calling the wash Arroyo Salada.
How to get there:
On the Borrego - Salton Sea Way (S22), at mile 37, go east, past the next bridge, about mile 37.2.
And park roadside.
