Itinerary description
More Anza Borrego Hiking
An other hike at the Alcoholic trial.
The normal way down, on the other side, is a bit boring.
This is a more challenging loop and it gives you a taste of boulder canyons.
The end of the asphalt, turns into a sandy dirt road heading into Coyote canyon.
A higher clearance car is what you need to get to the marked trailhead.
Check the road conditions at the visitor center, when you don't have AWD.
Hike up the Alcoholic Pass, a 30 minutes climb.
On the Alcoholic Pass, turn left (West), follow the ledge, that will become more boulder rich.
You have to find a way past the boulders, look carefully for the easiest route.
This part is stepping over boulders, following washes uphill.
Once on the saddle, a rather flat area, follow the wash downhill.
Some larger boulders, but not too difficult to pass. Take your time to find the best route.
Some sandy wash stretches, some larger boulders, until another steeper drop.
At that point, go to the right, over a ridge, more along the mountain to the right. This is easy hiking.
Up the Alcoholic Pass Wash, that's the first wash on the right.
