Does the loop you hiked follow a trail or did you navigate with a compass? I can't see any trails marked on my maps for the north parts of your loop, the parts not on AT.
from trail head Buttermilk Trail (blue) to AT Trail (white), loop around Crater Lake (orange) back to AT trail,1.3 miles on Lakes Road ,right to Blue Mountain Trail to Hemlock Lake , Woods Road to Buttermilk Falls Trail .
I walked with map and GPS I took two small short cuts
I see I have to buy a real map. OpenStreet map online doesn't show any trails in this area besides the AT.
