Itinerary description
I call this track "Butterfly track" because there are a lot butter flies on this track.
I have been there twice, first in 2021 (co-incidentally, that was the first trail I recorded on wikiloc) and again in June 2023. Both time I found a lot of butterflies on the track.
Track starts nearby the village Burj. Burj is a small village near Kotli Sattian, which is a tehsil of Rawalpindi District. The Lehtrar road leads you to Kotli Sattian, from where you take a left turn to Burj. The Lehtrar road goes to Kashmir aswel.
Track starts from a kilometer from Burj, near Phofandi village. It's better to park the vehicle near Burn bazar for security. We park our jeep near Phofandi village.
Track is mostly a walk however during the last section, you do hike mildly steep hills, just before you reach Patriata. You pass 5-6 springs, several villages and tops including Phofandi top. There are some saddles from there you can see valleys on the both sides of the track.
You can view Punjeer Rocks/Punj Peer from several points on the track.
My favorite panoramic view is near the end of the trail where there is land sliding and a tall rocky surface. You can see vast valley and forest from there. It looks stunning especially in the after noon as all the scenery wears a golden cloak.
After the point you reach Patriata's shaded forest. Lots of restaurants and games are available. You can get tea, snacks and cold drinks there. You can buy handicrafts, embraided apparel or can enjoy a horse ride.
There is mosque, market and washrooms available there. TDCP has a restaurant there. There is Recue 1122 office too.
However the main attraction there is the cable car. it was a sight to see people reaching the hill station and then embarking on the cable cars to get back to Murree.
On our way back, we were advised by a local man to take short cut through Phofandi village, which we gladly took. However we did end up in someone's courtyard, however the lady guided us throught the forest and we reach back to the jeep.
As the road was under construction from Lehtrar to Kotli Sattian. On our way back we skipped the Kotli Sattian route and took a short cut to Lehtrar village. That road was truly spectacular with afternoon sun and marvelous forest.
We could not get enough of the view and the road as there were almost no other vehicle.
A memorable drive, hike and day...
