Itinerary description

One of the most demanding routes I have done through the Montes de Bucegi. We are going to climb some beautiful paths, with good slopes. We will see Cabana de Caraiman, Cruz de Caraiman and from there to Babele passing through Sfinxul.

The route begins next to the Busteni cable car. We pass through a small forest that leads us to wade through Valea Jepilor. We are at a trail junction. At this point we will see information panels of the routes that can be done in the area. To the left we would go towards the Cascada de Urlatoarea and Jeppi Mari another beautiful ascent towards Babele that I climbed following this route Jepii Mari to Cabana Babele . I came to this waterfall from another place PoianaTapului Cascada de Urlatoarea . I am going to continue straight ahead following the marks of a blue cross, on a white background. It's nice to follow the paths in Romania, they are very well marked THANK YOU .

We are going to go up this beautiful path, traced next to the Valea Jepilor stream. If you look up and see what you have left, it scares you. Although little by little, you are gaining height.

I stop on more than one occasion, because my body demands it. I see people in front of and behind me. It is a more frequented route than I have climbed here. There are spectacular views from any natural balcony that we come across.

After about 2 hours and a half of constant ascent, we arrive at Cabana Caraiman. A beautiful place to make a must stop. The body needs a good rest and enjoy what we have climbed. In another later route that I did from Omu, I went down from Crucea de Caraiman to this place following this route Gondola Babele to Omu passing through Sfinxul, Antena Costila, Crucea de Caraiman, Cabana de Caraiman .

There are people around me enjoying this beautiful natural viewpoint. I meet a mountaineer from the area, and as we can we understand each other. I tell him that my first option was to go up from here to the Babele cable car. He tells me, why don't you go up to the Cruz de Caraiman, since you are so close to it. I tell myself, why not? I rest for a while and get ready to follow a beautiful path, with spectacular views.

The path is marked with symbols. I don't feel sorry for making this decision. You walk along a small path, sometimes it gives you a bit of a sensation, being so close to some large cliffs.

At last I see the great Cross of Caraiman. This cross has a history. The Cross of the Heroes of Caraiman, better known as La Cruz de Caraiman, was the tallest monument in the world built at that time and located at that altitude.

La Cruz was built between 1926 and 1928, in memory of the railway workers who fell in the First World War, in the battles against the armies of the Central Powers. The Cross has been built at the initiative of Queen Maria and King Ferdinand I of Romania, in order to be seen from far away. Legend has it that Queen Mary had it built as a result of her dream.

There are some spill views from here. At your feet you see all the towns that make up the valley. I stop to have a little lunch and enjoy the effort made.

It is time to return back, we are going to do it by the most used path to get here. A lot of people come from the Babele cable car. I'm going back, while they go. I feel very satisfied with what I have been able to achieve. The afternoon begins to fall, and the clouds allow me to take a very nice photograph.

Before finishing this beautiful route, we will pass through one of the most emblematic sites of these summits. The area is called Sfinxul, it is so peculiar because of the large number of stones with beautiful shapes. One of them is shaped like a sphinx, hence the name of this area.

On the way to the cable car, I pass Cabana de Babele, a mountain refuge. Next to it there is a rock and a Saint Bernard dog on it, ready to be photographed with all those present. So, I was not going to pass up the opportunity to do it. Also in this area, there are many people, being very close to the Gondola you can follow this route Gondola Babele Sfinxul .

I already arrived at the Babele gondola lift. It's a bit late and it shows because you have to wait a bit for your turn to go down to Busteni.

I have loved the route I have enjoyed it a lot, despite the fact that the climb has been very hard. I wish you enjoy it.

Video of the route

Transport We leave next to the Busteni gondola lift and we will go down from the Gondola lift in Babele.
