Itinerary description

Spectacular trail following a shelf road above the Porphyry Basin passing alpine meadows, old mine ruins, views of waterfalls and views of The Three Needles formation. The road continues as a trail passing Bullion King Lake and Porphyry Lake. Take time to explore the upper basin. This hike requires a 4x4 vehicle to reach the trail-head. Hikers without a 4x4 can make it part way up the road and hike to the trailhead. The lakes are a perfect spot for a leisurely lunch.
