The Vitosha Mountains are a large Natural Park covered with pine and beech forests.
The route begins at the Boyana Church, a world heritage site, with magnificent paintings from the 11th and 13th centuries, dedicated to the life of St. Nicholas. Also extraordinary are the portraits of the patrons who recorded the church, as well as that of the kings. Despite their time they point to the Renaissance's own strokes: moving bodies, chiaroscuro and some perspective point. It is advisable to book because visits are restricted to 8 people at a time and the daily quota is quickly filled.
The route runs through a beech forest, with vegetation covering the ground (ferns, wild raspberries, ...) The path offers no difficulty although at some step you have to help yourself with your hands. The waterfall is a great place to regain strength, and then reach the shelter of Molina Skala, which has a large shaded area, but today it was closed. So we have continued to the next shelter, very close, where a good soup and a cold beer have made us forget the tiredness.
From there the route descends the easy way and we soak our feet in the Río de Piedra, a "waterfall" of large granite blocks.
We finish in the village of Vladai.
A beautiful route highly recommended.
