Itinerary description
Doing the hike was a bit crazy.
90 min drive time from Plovdiv (back and forth), 11 km hike, I should check out from the hotel at 14h00 and return the rented car at 14h30. But I decided to do it.
Just keep in mind that I recommend you to follow the trail in reverse because that way the uphill won't be that steep and I guess it will be a bit easier. For me, I prefer to finish with the hard ascent and not a tough descent with all this pressure on my right knee, especially after my ACL and Meniscus operation last year. So after 300 m take your left and follow my trail in reverse.
If you decide to follow me, this is how it went:
The good thing is that during all my hike uphill, I was walking in the shade of the oak and Fagus trees... It was hard and demanding especially that with the little time I had, I was going fast and barely resting.
The view over Asenovgrad city is very nice and once you are at the highest point, you will forget the hard way up.
You will reach a small church with some resting spots. Enjoy a small snack and from there it is downhill all the way back to the Car.
On your way I passed by Muldava Monastry but I couldn't get in as it was closed. From outside it seemed interesting to visit and huge.
Most of the hike is in the shade, and don't forget to bring all your needed supply of water. This is the only time in Bulgaria where there is no fresh water fountains on your way.
You either walk on dirt roads or hiking trails but both are very easy to follow.
I would say it is a moderate hike.
Keep it clean and enjoy !!!

Great first climb, steeper than expected but rewarded with great views. Second half of route is a little less interesting but still a lot of fun. 😁
