Itinerary description

Birke Fell and Buckden Pike

Both of these fells can be done together if you wish from the large, toilet-adorned car park in Buckden. They are both nice walks too, especially Buckden Pike. I do hope you will have a better day than the rain-swept day I had.
Birke Fell: Easy enough walk on good paths, some boggy ground, but all easy enough even on a wet day. A bit of road work, farm track to the moorland entry of the hill, then good footpaths for most of the way. Once you reach the top of the hill, you turn right for a few hundred metres to hit the stone cairn. There is a nice tarn on the way.

Route Statistics: 10 km, 420 m height gain done in 2 hours, 30 minutes.

Buckden Pike: A great start to the walk going along a path that goes along and up the beck, where you will come across a number of beautiful waterfalls in this Jurassic Park like valley. There are at least two places where you have to do a bit of light scrambling to continue on the path. Once out of the valley, you follow a footpath, sometimes indistinct, all the way to the top before heading left to the trig point. Follow the GPS trail back down, then back to the car park on a good path that is stoned/stepped for a considerable distance.

Route Statistics: 7.2 km, 460 height gain, done in 2 hours, 15 minutes.
