Itinerary description

This is a nice forested walk down, along and across the Koksilah River in the CVRD's Bright Angel Park.

The woods here are a mix of cottonwood & cedar - some of them huge - with a scattering of fir. There were lots of trillium and lily in the lowland area. The River shows ample evidence of the power of high river flows, large gravel bars and large woody detritus scattered far from the main channel. On the day of this hike the water was flowing well and we had to bush whack around some flooded spots.

The cable suspension bridge over the river is a highlight of this hike

Just up slope from the turn around point is the (decommissioned) Esquimalt and Nanaimo railway right of way. It might be possible to use this to extend the length of this short hike.

Bright Angel is a full service park with washrooms, playground, playing field, picnic tables etc.

The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA (American Volkssport Association) rating of 2B.
