Itinerary description

This is a beautiful hike starting at Brari village and climbing up the mountain with the same name. We tried to climb up at one of two peaks but we didn't see any trail going up there. Approx. 300 meters before reaching the pass the trail turns to be invisible because of the bushes. At the pass the view is beautiful onto Bovilla lake. From there the route goes gently down to the main road (Arberi road). Getting back to Brari village offers an amazing view of Tirana river canyon which is getting destroyed by the road constrictions (Sept 2011).
We hiked normally with 4 short brakes(approx. 15 minutes/brake) and the hike lasted approx. 8 hours.

Congratulations! This is truly an amazing loop hike - certainly among the best in the Tirana area. Route-finding can be a problem, but with this trail data everyone should be fine now.

We once managed to bushwhack to the northen summit, but are still looking for a way up to the southern (and higher) summit.

Thank you! The hike was really amazing. Was my first time hiking that side of the Tirana river gorge. Actually after passing the cobbled trail is very easy to lose the trail. I putted way-points (turn right) at the crossings which might mislead the hikers.

For the northern summit there is no trail to climb up according the Russian topographic map of Albania. Congratulations! For the southern summit there is a trail going up from the pass, from Brari and from the other side of the mountain as well. I didn't try to find the way this time but I guess the trail would be almost covered by bushes.

If you are using a Garmin GPS device and if you don't have a map on it, you can find the digital Russian map of Albania at bunkertrails.org.

    Cheers!

We climbed the northern summit from the pass, without trail. The bush was not so thick. Thanks, yes, I have the geo-political basemap of Albania, from bunkertrails, and it is very good - though many "trails" are no longer in existence, or slightly off the mark. I often prepare for the hikes in google-earth, which can be helpful. You may know already: in google earth, you save your waypoints as "kml" file, and then convert them (for instance with "GPS babel") to garmin files.

Yes I have faced the nonexistence of the trails in some cases. Sometimes you find a house or a fence in the middle of the trail.

Thanks, I also use that method from google earth, it's very helpful.

You might know the Tiranahash group. They have uploaded some nice trails in their website (tiranahash.com).
