Itinerary description
The Old Man of Storr is a magnificent sight on the Trotternish Peninsula in the Isle of Skye. Standing at an impressive height of 164 feet, this rock pinnacle got its name due to its resemblance to the profile of an elderly man. The pinnacle is made of jagged basalt and is the highest point on the Trotternish Ridge, which was formed many years ago from a landslide. The area surrounding the cliffs is also adorned with peculiarly shaped rock pinnacles. It's no surprise that hikers flock to this location as the landscape is otherworldly and captivating. This otherworldly landscape has featured in a number of cultural works, notably the film Prometheus (2012). Some of the movie's opening scenes were filmed here...
