Itinerary description
Ready to give your legs a good workout? Check out this 15km bush walk around Borumba Dam, 10km west of Imbil. The trail starts opposite the viewing platform on the dam wall. Go through the steel gate and along the road (running parallel above the waters edge) until you reach the old cattle yards. Here you can go right, down to the dam or head left and up a very steep forest track till you reach the saddle. Walk south along the ridge to the top of Mt Borumba. Sadly the old tower is now just a heap of broken timber on the ground. There are a couple of viewing points where you can catch glimpses of the dam and surrounding mountains. On the return we walked further along the ridge back to Beacon Hill. Despite the steep trek to the top we only had limited views across toward Imbil. We could see Mt Cooroora in the distance from the summit. From here, we took the 2km very steep track back down to the dam. The track is rarely used and was covered in lantana and extremely slippery so be careful on that section. A really good workout for anyone who likes getting out amongst the hills and seeing some great views across the forest.
