We hiked the Boiling Lake in mid-April 2024, without a guide.
The big question with or without a guide;
Doing this hike without a guide is possible, we did it, it is very unlikely to get lost the trail is well marked by the different passages.
The guide will be useful to explain to you what is happening around you.
The day of the hike:
It had rained at night and a little in the morning which made the trails slippery.
Please note that for a good half of the hike you will have wooden logs as steps.
The start of the hike is good, a path which gains a little in altitude before descending to a river.
Then it gets tougher, big gain in altitude before reaching the summit, then we go back down to reach the valley of misery (very steep path, a bit of climbing)
In the valley of misery, very rocky path but nothing complicated, a few climbs then to reach the boiling lake.
Then turn around and do everything backwards.
This hike requires a minimum of physical condition, a lot of ascent/descent and some level 3C climbing I would say.
Leave early in the morning, never after noon.
You will need a good 6 hours of walking round trip.
Bring good shoes, 2/2.5 liters of water per person and some sweet products.
